Lower Lausatia

About the region

The area of operation of the Local Action Group “Grupa Łużycka” is a major tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over Poland and abroad, mainly by its crown jewels - the Muskauer Park (Park Mużakowski), which has been entered into the UNESCO World Heritage List, and the Muskau Bend (Łuk Mużakowa) which has been granted the status of a UNESCO Global Geopark. The Muskauer Park is a historical landscape park shaped by nature and gardening skills, and also one of the largest park projects in Europe. The Muskau Bend is a transborder geopark with unique natural, geological and landscape values which can be admired thanks to numerous hiking and cycling trails and routes.

The LAG operating area is one of the most densely forested parts of the Lubusz Voivodeship, with forests accounting for 55.45% of the total area of the LAG. These lands are a veritable paradise for mushroom hunters, environmentalists and foresters, but also offer interesting history and numerous historical sites and monuments. The Local Action Group “Grupa Łużycka” operates in the borderlands between Western and Eastern Europe. Convenient location and natural, historical and cultural values make this region an undeniably enticing tourist destination.

About the association

Formed in 2008 as an association, the Local Action Group “Grupa Łużycka” integrates the local communes, NGOs, businesses and local leaders. The LAG operates in the southern part of the Lubusz Voivodeship and involves seven communes of the Żary district and two communes of the Krosno district: Brody, Gubin, Gubin municipality, Jasień, Lipinki Łużyckie, Lubsko, Łęknica, Trzebiel and Tuplice. The territories of the communes within the Local Action Group are rather compact, with similar spatial potential, shared history and identical geographical features.

The Group supports initiatives aimed at strengthening community bonds, developing the recreational, tourist and cultural infrastructure, setting up and developing businesses, preserving the local heritage and promoting the area. The Group’s activities also include organising training sessions, workshops and cultural events, and publishing materials promoting both the operating area of the LAG and the activity of the Association itself. Detailed information on the Local Action Group “Grupa Łużycka”, its member communes and the implemented initiatives can be found at www.grupaluzycka.pl.
