Dobiegniew and Łagów Lake Districts

About the region

The areas of the Local Action Group “Brama Lubuska” have plenty of tourist attractions and are very popular among tourists, particularly in the summer months. The main selling points of the region are its natural values - clean lakes and rivers, and picturesque forests.
There is also plenty of wildlife that is easy to spot from the rivers.

The operating area of the Local Action Group “Brama Lubuska” also has numerous clean lakes, perfect for active summer holidays, with sailing, swimming, water biking and kayaking infrastructure. The deeper, tunnel-valley lakes have more transparent waters and offer great scuba-diving spots. The great variety of fish allows angling enthusiasts to enjoy their favourite hobby all year round. In the towns and villages located at the lakes, such as Pszczew, Łagów or Niesulice, you will find plenty of tourist services, accommodation, restaurants and entertainment facilities.

It should be pointed out that the tourist offering of the region is coexisting in perfect harmony with various forms of environment protection, which can be seen first-hand in the Drawa National Park, the Pszczew Landscape Park, or the Łagów Landscape Park. There are also numerous nature reserves where you can spot particularly interesting, rare species of flora and fauna. One of the most peculiar forms of protection in the region is the “Nietoperek” nature reserve, which can be found in the underground tunnels of the Fortified Front Oder-Warthe-Bogen and protects a breeding colony of as many of 37 thousand bats.

The region has a number of fascinating historical sites and objects, such as the fortifications and military installations from World War II, which include not only bunkers, shelters and tunnels, but also numerous hydraulic structures, such as water dams, weirs or bascule bridges. The best known and most popular objects are the Boryszyn Loop (Pętla Boryszyńska) and the Fortified Front Oder-Warthe-Bogen (also known as Międzyrzecz Fortification Region), and the Museum of Fortifications and Bats in Pniew.

Tourists also frequent the historical sacral objects and places of worship. The most valuable include the former Cistercian monastery of Paradyż in Gościkowo, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Rokitno, and the statue of Christ the King in Świebodzin.

Among the region’s architectural monuments, the castle in Międzyrzecz, located on a height and overlooking the confluence of the Obra and the Paklica rivers, is a mandatory stop on any tourist’s itinerary. There is a number of historical churches, and many old palaces, mansions, manors and mill have been converted into hotels, restaurants and recreational facilities.
