War cemetery

Address ul. 61. Brygady, 66-440 Skwierzyna
Located opposite the local garrison, it served as the burial ground for the Soviet Army troops. 13 mass graves serve as the final resting place for 482 soldiers who fell during the bloody struggle for the control of the town in January 1945. In the heart of the cemetery, an obelisk was installed in 1947, crowned with a cross styled as the Cross of Grunwald. The shield does not have the two naked swords usually associated with the Battle of Grunwald, but there is an inscription on the arms of the cross saying: “On the field of glory, 1945”. In the middle of the base of the monument, there is another inscription saying “Glory to the fallen. Dedicated to the soldiers of 1945”.
