Burgher residential buildings

Until the 18th Century, the dominating type of residential structures in the town were timber houses. The town square used to be surrounded by buildings with arcades, but today only one such building is left. The oldest houses in town date back to the end of the 18th Century - you will find them in Wiejska and Kościelna streets. The majority of the current town buildings originate from the 19th and 20th Century and combine elements of Gothic Revival, Art Deco and Eclectic styles. To see the most interesting buildings, architecture-wise, head to Wolności square, Jana Pawła II square, Piłsudskiego street, 1 Maja street and Sukiennicza street.
