“Octopus” pine

“Octopus” is a Scots pine aged around 150 years and a very unusual natural monument. It is unclear why the pine has such unique shape, but the most likely reason is that several trees grew into a single trunk up to the height of around 2 metres and above, branches out in eight massive arms. Another explanation of the tree’s shape might be that the original tree was damaged either by deer or insects, or broke under the snow, and as a result, the tree branched out.
