The most impressive of the forts encircling Fortress Kostrzyn, it was built in the years 1883-87 and features a dry moat with a wall base and 4 caponiers protecting the foreground, 3 of which have survived in relatively good condition to this day. The fort can be found around 4 km from the town centre of Kostrzyn, at the road to Szczecin, on the edge of the Oder river valley. The idea of building a ring of forts around old fortresses was based on the concept of creating a ring of self-reliant strongholds within the range of protective artillery fire to form an efficient barrier against the enemy forces advancing on the fortress.
