On a clear afternoon of 22 March 1841 at 3.30 PM in the village of Wilkanówko (today Wilkanowo), with a loud bank reminiscent of artillery shot, a 30-ounce (ca. 900 grams) meteorite crashed into the ground. Today, the largest chunk of the meteorite is displayed by the Museum of Natural History in Berlin. On the 161st anniversary of the meteorite crash, a boulder with a plaque was installed in Wilkanów to commemorate the meteorite which was named “Wilkanówek” after the then-name of the village.
