“Ludendorff” fortification group

The construction works on the fortifications of the Fortified Front Oder-Warthe-Bogen began at the turn of 1935 and 1936 atop the Fox Hill (Polish: Lisia Góra) in the Obra river oxbow, north of Stary Dworek. The fortification group includes rebar concrete and steel bunkers called panzerwerks which are connected by a system of underground corridors. Due to its location and equipment, it was one of the strongest sections of the German fortification lines. The Fortified Front witnessed warfare for the last time on 30 January 1945 when the Soviet 35th Guards Infantry Division commanded by Colonel N. Grigoriev, captured the fortifications. After World War II, the bunkers were demolished. Today, the Fortified Front is neglected and gradually falls into ruin.
