The Roman Catholic church of Divine Mercy belongs to the youngest parish in Świebodzin, founded in 1999. The construction of the sanctuary in Sulechowska street was initiated by priest Sylwester Zawadzki who, in order to acquire the necessary construction materials, ran a brickyard and a timber mill for a number of years. He was also behind the idea of erecting a 33 m high statue of Christ the King of the Universe in Świebodzin. After his death, priest Zawadzki’s heart, according to his wish, was buried at the feet of the Christ statue.
