Kleist tower ruins

The tower was built at the end of the 19th Century to commemorate the Prussian poet and soldier, Ewald Christian von Kleist who fought in the battle of Kunersdorf in 1759. The 21 m high tower was blown up in 1945 by the retreating German troops, as it was a perfect lookout point on the Lubusz Oder Defile. The commune of Słubice, working together with Frankfurt am Oder, is attempting to rebuild the tower. As of autumn of 2018, the contract awarding procedure was under way.
