The Early Medieval Slavic settlement was founded on a peninsula among the marshes, between Lake Czaple Wielkie and Lake Czaple Małe. Archaeological digs in the settlement confirmed that its inhabitants guarded the only crossing through the marshes of the Kosa river banks.
