Labour education camp “Oderblick” in Świecko
The labour education camp, which existed from 1940 to 1945, became one of the most important places of martyrdom in the Słubice region. In 1977, a monument to the victims was erected on the site of the former camp. The camp square is now overgrown with poplar trees. At its peak, the camp held 1,600 prisoners who were forced to work in the power station, the gravel pit in the camp, or on the local farms. In 1945, the Germans burned down the camp with some of the prisoners locked inside, attempting to erase the evidence of their atrocities.
