Statue of Karol Wojtyła

Address ul. Por. Franciszka Żwirki., 64-360 Zbąszyń
A bronze statue made by Jerzy Sobociński and Robert Sobociński depicts Karol Wojtyła sitting in a kayak with a book in his hand. The monument is placed on a pedestal extending over the river. The fountain provides the backdrop for the statue of the kayaking Bishop, who would later become Pope. From the distance, the kayak seems to be floating on the water. “Kayaking rally on the Obra River following Karol Wojtyła’s Trail” are organised in Zbąszyń since 2005. The route of the rally always passes the statue. During the Bagpipe Feast (Polish: Biesiada Koźlarska), the procession of bagpipers approaches the statue and the musicians collectively perform the religious song “Barka”.
