Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the government of the Third Reich decided to built an explosives factory in the south-eastern part of Forst where the bulk of the workforce was to be recruited from prisoners of war. The factory was completed in 1941 and together with the DAG plant at Nowogród Bobrzański employed around 25 thousand indentured workers from various countries, such as Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands or Russia. The reinforced concrete bunkers, which survive to this day, have walls over 2 m thick and are buried under a layer of soil, with pines and shrubs planted above them. It was an efficient method of concealing industrial facilities. Two combined heat and power station were built on the premises of the factory, several dozen metres below the ground. Some of the bunkers were demolished and others were closed after a fatal explosion of the residual explosive materials which killed three men. THE AREA IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ENTRY INTO THE BUNKERS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. PLEASE KEEP TO THE ESTABLISHED PATHS. Today, the premises of the old factory host an air soft gun course and a mushroom farm.
