Church of the Holy Spirit

Address Czarnowo, 74-204 Kozielice, Czarnowo
In 1601, in the central point of Czarnowo an oriented church was built on an rectangular plan. The building was made of fieldstone covered with lime mortar. On the nave side the church had a gable roof, covered with tiles. At the end of the 18th century the church was renovated and plastered, but it did not lose its original shape and style. The time of the construction and renovation is proved by the years of 1601 and 1750 placed in the southern part of the elevation of the monument. In 1696 the church was extended by a wooden tower which was changed into a brick tower several decades later. The tower still exists. It is composed of 5 storeys of square section and is topped with a lantern with a Baroque cupola. Today the tower is the only available entrance to the church. Inside the church there are pieces of equipment that deserve attention: a wooden ceiling, an altar, a pulpit from the 18th century and benches from the 19th century. The church is situated in a square surrounded by a 2.5 m stone wall with a little brick roof. On the southern side the wall is made of brick. The square where the church is situated, as many places of this type, used to be a cemetery, which is reflected by the gravestones in the western side of the square preserved until today.
