In 1905, the mansion in Renice was purchased by a Berlin banker Hugo Oppenheim who had it converted into a palace. Oppenheim was a Jew and eventually decided to leave Europe for the United States. He sold the estate to “Eigene Scholle” Parcellation Company. In the 1930s, the Nazis repurposed the palace for a Hitlerjugend training facility. After World War II, the palace became a Youth Fostering Centre which exists to this day.
